Why didn't Mashiah come Pesah 1990?

Hashem1.net links to a video from Rav Mutzafi who retells what happened before Pesah 1990.

Rav Ben-Tzion Abba Sha'ul, Zt"l, the famed Rosh Yeshiva of Yeshivat Porat Yosef, had mentioned before Pesah that year that there would be a great chance of Mashiah coming that Pesah. He even told those close to him to cancel flights going out of Israel.

However, when Pesah arrived and he had not come, and it soon became clear that he wasn't coming even close to Pesah, 2 Talmidei Hachamim started to wonder why his prediction had not come true, and indirectly asked the rabbi why Mashiah hadn't come.

Rav Abba Sha'ul answered that really Mashiah was supposed to come at that time. However, something occurred that was so grave that it destroyed everything that was built up at that time and therefore postponed Mashiah's arrival.

The Talmidei Hachamim reluctantly asked what it was that postponed Mashiah's arrival. Rav Abba Sha'ul replied that it was the contempt for Rav Ovadia Yosef, Shlit"a, that was displayed a bit before Pesah that year. That display of contempt was so grave in the eyes of Heaven that it was decided to subsequently cancel Mashiah's arrival for that time period. (Rav Mutzafi heard this story from the Talmidei Hachamim.)

What a terrible missed opportunity!!!

The Gemara in Shabbat 119b says that Yerushalayim was destroyed only because they were Mevazeh Talmidei Hachamim within it.

This time, 5766, it apparently is b'itah. The process unfolding now is not reversible. Two irreconcilable world powers are about to leave the b'nai Ya'akov standing at the end of the fight. The kingdom that serves G-d to make money, Edom, and the Amalek that they permit to exist in its midst, Haman controled Iran, seemingly will fight the war that neither can ultimately win. G-d willing after the 17th of Cheshvan Congressional election, Gog W. will be King of the U.S. for a period of months. He will seemingly move fast either against Iran or to divide Yerushalayim. The latter of course will, of course, lead to the former. An attempt to divide Jerusalem will lead to War against Iran, and will ensure the initial defeat of Western forces in that war according to Sefer Eliyahu.

It could transpire the other way. Gog W. may attack Iran first. When the war is going badly, Israel will be blamed, and then he will lead an international effort to divide Yerushalayim. The Persians will join in that effort according to Yechezkel HaNavi.

Either way the end game is the same. Baruch HaShem. Pray hard that the Midat HaRachamim prevails early on in this process.

Bizui HaEmet. The truth is that Rav Abba Sha'ul was wrong (like commenter Dov, the Gerrer Rebbe, the Lubavitcher rebbe and a long list of others).

I wish to note, however, that Rav Ovadia entered politics in all seriousness only after 1990, creating, indeed, a gigantic obstacle to the Geula: Shas. And, indeed, it could well be that Rav Ovadia drew substantial motivation from the criticism directed at him. His ga'ava pushed him, and caused him to reject the words of Rav Shach zts"l and many others.

The rest we know. The political landscape changed decisively. We all remember how Rav Ovadia supported Aryeh Deri and Moshe Katsav. Religious Jews for Crime and Jail.

But first and foremost, what we received was war. The Left got one more chance, and they grabbed it. Land for "Peace" killed and maimed thousands, and no apologies were offered as yet. The name of Torah was desecrated in the eyes of the Nation and the world.

Rav Mutzafi is so close to Rav Yosef that the claim in bold cannot be taken to prove a thing. Intellectual honesty precedes Torah.

To anonymous 10:00:53 AM,

The first 2 words of your comment pretty much summed up what your comment is: "Bizui HaEmet".

Shas - an obstacle to Geula???? How dare you! One of the biggest promoters of Torah and Hesed in Israel would be considered an expediter of Geula in my mind and in the mind of many others. Talking about Rav Ovadia's supposed ga'ava is also not going to get you brownie points in Shamayim.

Deri was innocent and railroaded to jail. Katzav has not been convicted yet, and may also be being framed.
Land for Peace did not kill and maim thousands - the Arabs did. The Torah was not desecrated. A Psak was given, which turned out after the fact to be the wrong one at the time, but HaHalacha Bimkomah Omedet - in different circumstances, the Psak was correct. I've said before that the generals, who were supposed to be the experts, were wrong. They should be the ones apologizing - not Rav Ovadia.

I'm astounded at the gall of someone who continues being Mevazeh Talmidei Hachamim on the post that says that it prevented the Geula.

Anonymous 10:39:26,

Do you think that Rav Mutzafi would deceive the public by saying this??? This is a terrible accusation to make against a well-respected rav like Rav Mutzafi.

Intellectual honesty precedes Torah??? This is so blatantly false that I don't know where to begin. Torah gave us intellectual honesty.
Anyways, I am being very intellectually honest.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ovadia_Yosef

"In 1990 Rabbi Yosef used his position as Shas spiritual leader to pressure Prime Minister Yitzhak Shamir into agreeing to hold negotiations with Arab states for a peaceful settlement of the Arab-Israeli conflict....."

That is how it started. Do not blame military advisers. And if you insist, name them. No, Ya'ak, it was Yosef. Only Yosef. Ovadia Yosef, the rabbi who is revered by the cult he is heading as if he were divine. Ovadia Yosef, he himself, all by himself, carries the blame. If only he would have listened to Rav Shach. And he knows it.

Torah says that Edus is not valid if it coming from one who is "too close". The relation Rav-Talmid is not mentioned, but by extension I think the above criticism makes sense. A pretty clear case of vested interest.

What was the criticism about? Was it the issue of the acceptance of the Ethiopian Jews? Or was it the issue of Land for Peace?
