Rav Berland Shlit"a: War on 22 Av

According to YNet, Rav Eliezer Berland Shlit"a, one of the elder Breslov rabbis, told his students to travel to Uman and pray for Am Yisrael until the 22nd of Av (the night of August 1st, 2010), which is when war with Iran is supposed to break out.

One of his students said that the rav only meant this to be Mehazeik his students (i.e. to strengthen them in Avodat Hashem) - not that he believes it to be true.

Meanwhile, the "Milkman" said that all signs are pointing toward war, and we must pray for Am Yisrael to avoid it.

Not impressed. What happened with the cataclysm of Feb 14th (thereabouts) and the other cataclysm of when the Churva was reopened?

Nosson,

This is, according to some of his students at least, a prediction for the next war. This may or may not occur, but know that they were said by a great and respected rabbi. Whether he believes it to be true or not, the purpose of publicizing it is to strengthen our Emuna to arouse Teshuva.

Many more predictions have come and gone before Feb. 14th (??) and before the Hurva was rededicated. This is irrelevant. Our job is to keep our Emuna and keep learning Torah and doing Mitzvot, and things will fall into place. Sometimes, predictions come along to strengthen our Emuna. If it's true, we see the Yad Hashem. If not, we go on with our lives. The way I look at it, it's as simple as that.

If you think that every prediction by every rabbi will come true, then Bar Kochba would have been the Mashiah 1875 years ago.

These predictions made by recent rabbis are not meant to impress - they're meant to inspire. If you believe that they have true Ru'ah Hakodesh, then believe it, but don't get downtrodden if it doesn't come to pass - things happen. We're Maaminim Benei Maaminim and we go on being Maaminim.

As many of us think that 5770 is the year of the Geula, it's more than likely that everything will happen Av/Elul this year. Hashem usually leaves everything until the last minute... remember 9/11 took place in the last days of Elul.
The further we go into this year, the worse things are going to get. (that's what I think anyway)

'Definite' dates are a bit too much because that is like saying he knows better than Hashem chv's.

But if there should be an explosion of sorts, I'm imagining more like Succos, when Am Yisrael is waving those lulavim in harmony, while the rest of the world is disintegrating. IY"H

I really doubt that anything will happen.
Israel has enough problems as it is with the Gaza flotilla. I don't think that Israel will attack now that new sanctions are in place and that Congress and the EU are adding more sanctions of their own. Netanyahu will not attack without a green light from the Americans and he definitely will not get a green light by August 1, 2010.
War with Iran is Edom's job, not Israel's.
Now as far as Gog and Magog are concerned, Rebbe Elimelech of Lezinsk in the 18th century was able to cancel that decree.

Those who know are silent, those who don't know are predicting. This was the conclusion of some of the biggest kabbalists in Israel just this week.

Why specifically the 22nd of Av?

Blessings. i feel we should always follow the advice of rabbis and most especially when it comes to prayers for peace and safety to israel. Just because it does not happen does not mean the rabbi is wrong, it means G-d in HIs great compassion heard the prayers and stalled the negative.
It happened in niniveh and many other times. why should the rabbi ask to pray if not for Mercy to cancel the harm to israel.

"One of his students said that the rav only meant this to be Mehazeik his students"

if the students know this is a lie only intended to strengthen them, then how does it strengthen them?

First of all, assuming he doesn't believe it himself, it's not a lie - of course, he's not lying - he wouldn't ח"ו be Over on מדבר שקר תרחק. Rather, my guess is that he was somehow privy to information בחזקת ספק that he told over בחזקת ודאי.

Secondly, to answer your question, obviously, not all of his students consider it to only be Mehazeik them - so they therefore get Hizzuk from it.

Interesting enough, August 1st and August 2nd broke a silence of many months with th firing of several Katyusha and Grad rockets into Israel. These rockets were fired from Gaza and Sinai and are all known to be Iranian made rockets. Today the USA and Israel together are finally discussing an attack on Iran, on top of harsher sanctions.
