Dear President Obama

I'm deciding which one to send.
Can you help me out?
Vote in the comments.

Version A

Dear President Obama,

Congratulations on your winning a second term in office.  Now that you have promised to bring the country together and to move forward in uniting this nation of ours, I can only hope that you live up to those promises.

Years ago, you were a state senator in Illinois, and my rabbi went down to the capital building in Springfield on a rabbinical mission.  At the time, he was pleasantly surprised when you went across the room to seek the rabbis out unsolicited. He doesn't have the same positive views about you since then, but we all agree that you have been courteous to the American Jewish population. Underscoring this is the fact that your chief of staff is an observant Jew and that you have conducted Seders every year of your presidency.

I do have some concerns about some of your policies, including your liberal social agenda, your Middle East policy, and ObamaCare, to name a few, but I am hopeful that you will move toward the middle of the political spectrum, conforming with your pledge to unite the nation.

I will pray to G-d that He will give you the wisdom to do the right things for the sake of this nation and the world.

Sincerely,

Yeranen Yaakov
Version B

Dear President Obama,

Congratulations on your winning a second term in office. Now that your campaign's dirty politics, mudslinging, and blatant lies against your opponent have come to an end, I want to point out a few wrong decisions that you have made in your first term - and earlier - that make myself and people like me shudder in fear.

First and foremost, you have rivaled your predecessor Jimmy Carter in being the most anti-Israel president in history. You implemented a useless freeze on settlements, your Vice-President and State Department have berated Israel for building in Jerusalem, Israel's capital, and your spokesmen have refused to actually name Jerusalem Israel's capital.  You deemed Jerusalem "undivided" only to backtrack on that the next day.  Your policy on Iran leaves me feeling less secure than four years ago, and your support of the Arab Spring leaves us wondering if a Muslim Caliphate is on its way.  Your first foreign speech in Cairo left all freedom-loving people trembling in fear.  Meanwhile, an ill Jonathan Pollard is languishing in prison, and you couldn't care less.  And to top it off, your arrogant, condescending treatment of Prime Minister Netanyahu is a perfect example of how anti-Israel you are.  Yes, you have to deal with him every day, as you whined to former PM Sarkozy.  You have rivaled Jimmy Carter indeed.

Your social agenda makes me wonder whether I'm in the same country in which I grew up.  Your support for same-gender marriage is abhorrent, especially for a president.  Your anti-life policies are just as bad, and I can't for the life of me understand how you can force religious constituents to defy their beliefs to follow your liberal agenda.

With regard to your fiscal policies, your "fair share" speeches leave me feeling that your sense of fairness is heavily skewed.  It may work nicely in the Sherwood Forest, but in reality, the only word I can use for it is "redistribution".  Unemployment lingers around 8% and isn't getting much better.  ObamaCare has a few good points, but the fact that it basically levies a giant tax - as the Supreme Court deemed it - on the tax-paying part of the nation - and in the middle of a national economic struggle - is simply baffling.

Your past isn't reassuring to me either.  Your learning in a midrassa in Indonesia makes me wonder who and what shaped the views of your youth.  Your ties to Bill Ayers, Frank Marshall Davis, Reverend Wright, and Rashid Khalidi should have marginalized you long ago, and yet you endure.

In short, I'm pretty much against everything you are for.  That said, I have come to terms that you will be the President of the United States for the next four years, and will have to live with it.  Nevertheless, you should not be surprised if people like me move out of the country during the next four years.  We love our country, but not the direction we see it moving.

I will pray to G-d that He will give you the wisdom to do the right things for the sake of this nation and the world.

Sincerely,

Yeranen Yaakov

Sorry Yaak, but he doesn't care what you, or anyone else, thinks.... he's been re-elected and he can and will do whatever he likes. He is the Most Powerful Man in the World now, as Hashem meant him to be.
Here we go.....

I wouldn't write him anything. I will continue to 'speak to Hashem' about concerns for Am Yisrael and what's in my heart.

OK - so far 2 votes for no letter.

Neshama, speaking to Hashem is a given. My question is if our Hishtadlut should be the pandering type or the protesting type.

You, my brothers and sisters, who live still in diaspora, have too much love for these countries. I'm sorry, i cannot take it. You want to rebuild America after sandy, katrina, who knows what else is going to be, instead of making aliya? Where's is Hashem, where's israel in your heart? I lived in 3 countries, and i end up living here in israel, and i'm very happy i've made right choice 3 years ago.

I don't like the guy either , but you will not get anywhere with either
version of your letters . I suggest you rewrite a third version that is a bit more friendly , but don't expect any reply from Obummer as he is a bum that's the nature of the animal. Your letter is all over the map , simplify your letter , state that you are a respected Rabbi and influential blogger with readers all over the world and that you want a reply to your inquirey .
Try to balance your criticism with
something a bit complementary ,
and good luck !

Don't waste your time with him. You should instead be writing a letter to NBN about why you want to make aliyah. Get out now.

Obama hasn't done anything to the Jewish state YET that is any more evil than what George Bush did !!

Though both Bush and Obama are from the dark side in my opinion I find it curious that Bush was touted by some as Eliyahu in his first term before finally becoming Gog/little horn by Gush Katif. Bush and Obama are only playing their roles in the DECREED demise of America.

Racism is as evil as antisemitism.

What's the point? Really? He stated to Medveded that this was his last election. He has four more years to do what he's been doing for the last four and a letter from you won't even reach him. Start making your plan to get the heck out of here before it really hits the fan. He's not going to suddenly become more contemplative after reading letters from dissatisfied Jews.

No letter is necessary. If we do not block Mashiach's arrival by our actions, he'll take care of our enemies as they deserve.

Love version B, but since he'd probably either never read it, or stop after the first sentence, not sure you'd accomplish much besides "venting"! Wish I really felt that sending it would help....as we all acknowledge, only HKBH will help us, now as always!

Rewrite version A.
Keep the letter friendly, warm but make it to the point.
One point.
Focus it on policy towards Israel.

Version B with one minor change. I am leaving this country within the next four months...or four weeks depending what happens with the Fiscal Cliff in seven weeks. Besides he already told you that he is going to seek revenge. If millions of Americans leave with their wealth in tow, you might not be able to leave America with all of your wealth. You should be out of there in four months maximum. Don't take any chances.

i have already written to yeranan yaakov in private, what i would like to humbly state is , the jews are the light to all nations. even the most wicked person on earth should be forewarned. if Hashem can give this same token of choice to pharo, and all the other wrong doers, i feel the jews should also do so. whether it sinks or it does not sink into his hard head, that is besides the point. that jews or any jew took it upon himself to warn a gentile of any wrong doing he may have in mind for israel, is also the role Hashem meant for jews as the light to all nations. one day the gentiles should not turn round and say, no one warned me. ofcourse he has all the available sources to refer and find out what happens to an enemy of israel, history has a list of what happens to them.
if niniveh changed after jonah's warning, wh o knows what can happen out of this. if nothing, ok , fine. but he cant point his finger to the jews and whine, why did you not warn me.

Write letter C to the president of Israel to attack Iran, because Obama will not make first move. It is time for red lines, and it will be in its time like. Somebody will say that if someone wants to kill you, kill him first.

Any letters you send are first read by screeners. Only those that say "You're wonderful, congratulations!" gets past them so that the president can continue to believe he is God's gift to America and the world. Your letter won't make it past them.

I am not a prophet but looks like we are here, the year 5773 scenario probably will look like this:

Everything is in Hashem hands and He made Obama to play role in Gog U Magog. As I said Obama probably will not strike Iran first, so we have two possibilites either Iran will strike Israel first and it will be like the land will be purified from all disgusting things that made during this years and after war will begin betw Ishmael and Edom to get the land. Many will be killed in the land and only few will survive. Or Israel will attack Iran first and in this case Russia will stand for their arab friends and America will stand for Israel, but both countries have intensions to get the land. The war will begin between Ishmael and Edom anyway. How long it will last no one know, I think it is good start for Israel during Chanuka, and the most critical days will December 12-21.
Meanwhile everybody should prepare their documents and watch carefully Does not matter where you are whoever holds for Torah and Mitsvot will not be heart. Ask you friends and relatives to start to keep something if they not keeping mitsvot, any mitsva will save them.
Documents should be prepare to leave your place if danger will come(G-d forbid).

Hishstadlut?
I don't believe that is applicable to writing a letter or not. 'Voting' was the act of hishstadlut. To me, such a letter is folly. HaShem's Will (ending this Galut) was done. The disintegration of America has been happening for a long time, and this election made it crystal clear and obvious to all who have eyes to see and ears to hear. How many disasters do they need to read the handwriting on the wall?Dov has cautioned many times about this. But how many BP and Willi Jews read blogs???

Neshama, I see you are the one who thinks actions not required with many others who sit all day learning Gemara and not doing actions. We lost Romney because some Jews thought it is not an obligation, why vote, Hashem will do everything for us. Now meet Obama.

Write the letter Yaak, I wrote to Obama few times regarding to free Jonathan Pollard, regarding Israel. Even if we not be heard, Hashem wants us to do actions.(Lyubavitcher Rebbe).

Israel must attack first or it will be second Holocost (G-f forbid) which numbers will multiply by 10, it is almost 6 million Jews in EY. Israel have no one to rely only Hakadosh Baruhu.

You all behave and speak like a bunch of victims if these posts and comments really represent you. This mindset is the antithesis of G-d's desire as illuminated in Torah. We can do better.
