Even More on Tadmor From Rav Fish

In Rav Fish's latest, he posts what he said last week and then adds a couple of sources:
  • Midrash Zuta (and also found in Yalkut Hamechiri on Yeshaya):
[After the Midrash says that Mashiah will go to Midian and take its spoils and then to Damascus and take its spoils - and the opening will be opened from there to Rome], HKB"H said to them: [Go back to Yerushalayim, behold you are] a man similar to a sleeping one and I will awaken him.  Behold the kings of the east are gathering in Tadmor and Israel is coming from Rome and approaching Yerushalayim in 7 days [alternatively, bringing sacrifices in Yerushalayim for 7 days], and HKB"H makes a wind blow and tells Israel, "Return to Tadmor, opposite the kings of the east."  And the kings of the nations say, "Permission was granted for Israel to build the Beit Hamikdash," and they are coming to burn it while HKB"H goes out and fights against them to fulfill what it says "Then shall the LORD go forth, and fight against those nations."  And the Mashiah comes to Tyre, Sidon, Tadmor, and Biri [Boro] to fulfill what it says, "they shall put forth their hand upon Edom and Moab; and the children of Ammon shall obey them."
  • Rav Tzadok Hakohen of Lublin in Dover Tzedek explains why we make a Yom Tov when Tadmor is destroyed:
The Erev Rav, whose leaders are the children of Bil'am, their power is drawn from Tarmod.  And when it will be destroyed and totally nullified, then there will be a Yom Tov since a Yom Tov occurs when there is a complete unification between Israel and their Father in Heaven.
Rav Tzadok ZY"A also makes reference to the Zohar Pinhas 233a which is similar to the Zohar Mishpatim 112b which explains how Shelomo Hamelech acquired his wisdom by going to Tarmod and learning it from fallen angels.  Note, however, that the Zohar in Pinhas explicitly says ולאו איהו אתר דתרמודאי - meaning not the one of the Tarmudians - but rather the one that was in the mountain in the desert.  It therefore implies that the one from the gemara is different than this one.  From the pictures of Palmyra, the mountains in the desert is quite apt.

  1. I do recognize that ever since Tadmor was taken and decimated by ISIS, we have begun to hear more from Tzippy Hotovely about teaching Torah to Mankind from Yerushalayim and less from Tzippy Livni whose campaign slogan was, "Let us be popular again!"
