Bibi's Speech, His Rabbi's Speech, and the Yalkut Shimoni

Before we get to Bibi's speech, there are a couple lesser known things about it:
  1. Kikar is reporting that right before the speech at the UN, he recited chapters of Tehilim to pray for its success.  Let's just call it modernity with tradition.
  2. I was forwarded the following email which I am posting here with permission.  It originated from Beryl Eckstein, who attended Yom Kippur Tefila at the חובבי ציון (also known as הצבי ישראל) shul in Yerushalayim's Talbiya neighborhood.  The name of the rabbi who gave the speech is Rabbi Bronstein.  Beryl sent this email out before Netanyahu's speech was given.  Only edited for formatting.

Shavua Tov,

Bibi and Peres were in shul for Kol Nidrei which in itself was quite cool.
It is pretty neat to be standing 5 feet from the two of them and I felt much
of the awe that chasidiim feel before their Rebbi (not sure either Bibi or
Peres would appreciate the comparison) This year the Rabbi spoke about a
Yalkut Shimoni from Yeshayahu. I will quote him because it is so powerful;

Bibi went over to the Rabbi and took the Rabbis speech and said he wanted to
use it at the UN. I doubt he will quote it but you never know.

Bibi is there every year but never speaks. This year he said he felt
compelled after the Rabbi's speech. He said he had 3 messages for us;

1) he was going to the US to tell the truth. People now are not just trying
to delegitimize (probably not a word) Israel but the Jewish religion. I hope
he includes Abbas in this but doubt he will

2) every nation that has risen up in history against the Jews is no longer
in existence

3) we shall not fear and we shall not give up hope.

He said it beautifully and I am sure most will write this up better than I
did, but I will remember Bibi studying the words of theילקוט and how amazing
it was to see the leader of the Jewish nation sitting and living the words
of Torah.

SHavua Tov and chag sameach

Beryl

Wouldn't that have been interesting if Bibi included it!

Here's what he actually said:

Did you leave out the English translation?

Yes, because I was quoting directly from an email.

I've translated this a number of times in the past. For example, here.

We are two years before Persia is a nuclear power with a full array of nuclear weapons. At this point at the beginning of 5773, we are not yet at the point where Persia will try to take over the world. That will likely take place in 5775. In 5773 we know that there will be a "Roman" or Edomite based initiative to divide Jerusalem and shove a Palestinian state down our throats. At that point the place where an international conference is taking place to accomplish this task will be hit with a meteorite shower. Is Bibi Mashiach ben Ephraim or Shilo (Shai lo) or both or neither? We will know soon enough. At least he is the man with the right name at the right time. In my book so far he has been plain chicken. But with our prayers and our lulav shaking, things can change on a shekel. Still waiting for Syria to become a major regional or world war in which two kings perish. This must precede any international conference chaired by a re-elected 11th horn.

But the Yalkut Shimoni passage refers to the point in time when Persia has reached the status of a nuclear power. We ain't there yet. That moment will have to wait for the coming Shmittah year. And if Bibi turns out to be MB Ephraim, when that war transpires, he may have to duck and play duck which is kind of like playing chicken after you have done something really brave. In short if he is MB Ephraim, I don't know if he survives this. But first he has to start doing things that are really brave which he has shown no tendency toward doing in his political career. Some American conservatives are comparing him to Winston Churchill. So far he seems like a Churchill fried chicken. And the only kosher fried chicken so far is from Kentucky. So far Ehud Barak and the Attorney General seem to run this country more than he does. Cluck.
