Mishkoltz Rebbe Shlit"a: Geula This Year - If...
As part of the Mishkoltz Simhat Beit Hasho'eiva in Petah Tikvah, Kikar reports:

The climax of the evening was the inspirational and encouraging speech of the Mishkoltz Rebbe, who spoke about the topics of the holiday and of the hour. Among his words, the Rebbe said:
This year, at the Ne'ilah prayer on Yom Kippur, it was decreed that the Geula will come this year upon the Nation of Israel. However, the matter depends upon us. If we now strengthen ourselves with 3 things: 1) Faith in the Creator of the world, 2) Torah, 3) Unity in the Jewish Nation, then we will merit to greet Mashiah Tzidkenu this year.

"on condition that we do tshuva" - does that mean 10% of Jews, 50%? 100%? Most Jews are totally disconnected, 50+% intermarried, and very unlikely to ever hear these types of messages. If you approach the majority of Jews on this, they will call you a dangerous nutcase, and brainwashed, religious fanatic. The discussion will be over before it starts!
With Israelis, they wouldn't give the time of day to these Rabbis, given the animosity towards the Orthodox.
I also agree tshuva is needed, and I became baal tshuva. but, 9 out 10 did not and will not even hear about it.
If it means most Jews, how will that happen? And, if it doesn't what does that mean re: mashiach?
Amein! May it be so!
David,
I'm not sure where you're quoting from, but it isn't my post. I didn't mention Teshuva once. Perhaps, you extrapolated. But the Mishkotz Rebbe only mentioned 3 things - not a complete Teshuva. Teshuva is necessary eventually, but perhaps, the 3 things are the smaller it'aruta diltata that is required to get the ball rolling.
Your question is a good one, when we will need to do Teshuva, and the question can be asked on the gemara, where both Ribbi Eliezer and Ribbi Yehoshua agree that Teshuva will be necessary. The gemara answers your question by saying a king whose decrees will be like Haman's will rise up, causing everyone to do Teshuva out of fear - if no other Teshuva is forthcoming.

Could it be that sufficient teshuva has been done? Or that HaShem is giving us an easier path?
It seems, however, that nothing has changed. Am Yisrael is still in discord in many areas. But will HaShem bring the Geula because so much has to be done before the end of this era? If world events speed up and intensify this year, it will surely be a sign. With more nations recognizing the specialness of Israel and Yerushalayim and the Kotel, perhaps HaShem will swoop up His Children and dump them into the Geula to bring the end days to fruition.
Simchat Torah to all.
