Moped Accident - Geula Sign?
Ynet reports and shows a video that Rafi links to of a tragic traffic accident where moped driver Moshe Hai Yisraeli, ע"ה, tried to bypass a truck, and was hit by one. What happened next was even more shocking - no one stopped to help - for about a minute drivers drove past the "obstacle" on the road, as Ynet put it, and let him bleed to death.
Despite Cosmic X's downplaying the incident, it seemed to make an impression on many people, religious and non-religious alike, according to the article.
The Mishna in Sotah 49b, which talks about the generation of the "Footsteps of Mashiah", lists many signs of that generation. One of the signs is:
ואנשי הגבול יסובבו מעיר לעיר ולא יחוננו
And the men of the border will go around from city to city and they will not have mercy
This sign has, in the past, been used to refer to many things, including the Disengagement from Gush Katif. However, another possible explanation is the people who are going around (as in going around the "obstacle" on the road) from one city to another, minding their own business, and not caring about helping others.
Now, the truth of the matter is that we are a caring people. A very caring people. More than any other people. We are רחמנים בני רחמנים, we say. This includes Shomerei Torah Umitzvot and otherwise. However, I speak for myself too when I say: there's always room for improvement. If we want to be the standard for others to follow, we have to strive for perfection. Anything less, the Mishna will denote as "ולא יחוננו".
When we will have mercy on others, BE"H, Hashem will have mercy on His children, and we will merit the complete Redemption, may it come speedily in our days, Amen.

The facts seem to say something other than the clip that was taken out of context and it has turned into another case of dramatic newspaper headlines and cheap politicing.
Apparently, the moped rider was killed instantly nad perhaps beheaded. On the Arutz7 site, a couple of talkbackers claimed to have been witnesses and say that things on site were different. Cars did stop immediately, traffic in that busy intersection flowed because A) most people didn't know that the accident happenned, B) drivers who passed the body stopped and puked their brains out from the sight.
A little kaf zchut should be taught to the journalists and politicians who suddenly discovered the mitzvah of 'standing on ones blood'.
Maybe you're right, Josh. That's similar to Cosmic X's point, so if what you say is true, then I agree with you.
One of The Rebbe's (Rabbi Eliyahu said The Rebbe was Moshiach ben Yosef) projects was to spread kindness to everyone, without reason or motive; that this generation will be saved thru chessed.
The clip was shocking - but it's true that only those who were there can know what really happened and why.
Yaak,
See this .
Cosmic,
I'm Modeh. I was blinded by my agenda. I'll try to be more careful in the future.
