On Predicting the End 2
I gave a talk Shavuot night about the idea of calculating the Keitz, and whether or not it is permitted to do so - not as psak halacha, just to analyze the sources. The sources I used or wanted to use are listed below:
- Daniel 12:9-10 with Rashi and Metzudat David
- Sanhedrin 97a - ג׳ באין בהיסח הדעת
- Sanhedrin 97b - first half of page
- Sanhedrin 99a מאי יום נקם בלבי
- Avodah Zarah 9b - last half of page
- Pesahim 54b - first Beraita on page
- Megilla 12a - second line אמר רבא
- Kohelet Rabba 12:10 - בקש קהלת
- Yerushalmi Shabbat 6:9 - אמר ר' חנינא
- Rambam in Mishneh Torah, Hilchot Melachim 12:2
- Rambam in Iggeret Teiman here (ואולם מה שזכרתי) and here (ואולם אמתת העת)
- Ramban in Sefer Hageulah - וסבת ההעלמה going to the next page
- Abravanel in Mayenei Hayeshua 1:2 - second column starting with וכבר ידעת
- I couldn't find the Malbim's story referred to in the previous post. It says it's from the Malbim's Introduction to the Book of Daniel, which I could not find anywhere. If anyone knows its Hebrew-language source, either online or otherwise, please let me know - thanks.
- Vilna Gaon on Sifra DiTzni'uta, Chapter 5 - second column starting with ומכאן תדע
- Kol Hator, Chapter 4 - last paragraph
- Lubavitcher Rebbe on the Rambam's Hilchot Beit Habehira, pp. 178-179 - עפ"י הנ"ל
- R' David Holub's 14-page appendix to Iggeret Teiman
