Yemot HaMashiah Inverse of Dor HaPelaga

Based on and translated from the end of R' Elchanan Samet's article.

The Dor HaPelaga (Generation of Dispersion) had arrogance and idolatry as its two main sins.  Idolatry causes multitudes - a multitude of gods, of places of worship, and ways of worshipping.  When they were punished, their dispersion and linguistic and cultural separation was really a reflection of their idolatry.  This is how the arrogance of those who are united for an evil purpose is broken, and this is how the technological advancements of that generation was diminished.  From then on, nations will be separated in language and culture, and they will struggle and fight each other with weapons of destruction.

Only when  society will turn toward Hashem will Ahdut prevail.  Both in terms of language:

For then will I turn to the peoples a pure language, that they may all call upon the name of the LORD, to serve Him with one consent.

and in terms of centralizing around one high place that will serve all who are scattered in the earth:
And it shall come to pass in the end of days, that the mountain of the LORD'S house shall be established as the top of the mountains, and shall be exalted above the hills; and all nations shall flow unto it.
And many peoples shall go and say: 'Come ye, and let us go up to the mountain of the LORD, to the house of the God of Jacob; and He will teach us of His ways, and we will walk in His paths.' For out of Zion shall go forth the law, and the word of the LORD from Jerusalem.

and then, the technological talents of man will return to its original purpose:
And He shall judge between the nations, and shall decide for many peoples; and they shall beat their swords into plowshares, and their spears into pruninghooks; nation shall not lift up sword against nation, neither shall they learn war any more.
