Which is the Biggest Sign of Mashiah Coming?
From Newsweek's cover, which of the following do you consider the biggest sign that Mashiah is coming?
a) Tsunamis
b) Earthquakes
c) Nuclear meltdowns
d) Revolutions
e) Economies on the brink
f) The fact that a major magazine thought it appropriate to use a bleeped-out swear word on its front cover
I go with "f".

The common denominator is something Newsweek will only understand when they stop hating Klal Yisrael in Eretz Yisrael. G-d wants us back here serving Him in His Palace. By the way, they forgot to mention massive flooding (in Australia and Thailand), the harshest winter on record, blackbirds falling from the sky, and massive fishkills and the largest underwater oil spill in history. Chodesh tov.
I go with F as well.
These things have been happening for thousands of years. Crusades, flooding, financial collapses, wars, famines, huge earthquakes, volcanic eruptions, natural disasters, bubonic plagues. While the world is experiencing turmoil this is not "new" nor is it "the first time." History is cyclical.
Gav, first of all, you may have missed the point of the post.
But, now that you mentioned it, I wouldn't call it cyclical. I'd describe it more like a spiral staircase. Things seem to go round and round, but are coming to a head sooner than later.
I would also posit that these events, if you add them all up together, have not converged like this before in history. And that includes option "F".
Yaak I disagree completely. When the Roman legions were slugging it out with the Germanic barbarians as Rome was falling do you have any idea of the chaos that reigned? The mass executions, starvations, etc. Read history.
Killing fields of Cambodia
Atlantis sunk from earthquake/tsunami
Ghengis Khan and Asia in disarray
Famines in Africa
San Franscisco 1906
Wall Street 1929
Tulip Bulb Bubble (1700s) resulting depression
And HUNDREDS if not THOUSANDS of other assorted...
volcanic eruptions,
huge earthquakes,
cyclones,
mass starvations
crazed kings and emperors,
and various disasters natural or man made throughout world history.
Gav, you tell me to read history. I think I have a decent knowledge of history. Thank you.
I never said that there wasn't chaos throughout the world before. Of course there was.
What I said was that the various and varied nature of events (including the ones R' Dov Bar Leib mentioned above) converging into the past few years should give all of us pause.
The BP Oil spill is not evidence of the "end Time". If you reference "the largest spill in history" as your support for being in the "End Times" your claim is nothing more than just plain silly. Of course there was never a larger one before - there was no underwater drilling hundreds or thousand of years ago.
And as to the pathetic claim that all of these things "have never happened before" well how do you know that? There was no media attention 100 or 500 or 1000 years ago because there was no media. There was no internet or news agencies. Dont confuse media attention with the fact something did or did not happen in world history.
"Harshest winters" come on what about something called the Ice Age - oh that wasn't harsh?
The cattle in Egyot were plagued - that wasnt a catastrophe?
People used to worship idols and sacrifice their kids to idols - I think that was pretty bad maybe alot worse than the BP oil spill or the "harshest winter."
We might be in the End Times and we may not be yet. But to support the claim that we are in the end Times by pointing to the BP oil spill, harsh winters or animal.fowl deaths is absurd since these have all happened before. These claims are pathetic.
Unfortunately, some people are too blind to see.

There is no scarcity of historians, and no historian told us of this amount of phenomena in size and in close time-proximity as we have today. I challenge you to find it. This, coupled with my letter "f" in the post, which stands for a moral decadence that has never existed as it does today (think Hutzpa Yasgeh) can prove that I am correct.
"Harshest winters" come on what about something called the Ice Age - oh that wasn't harsh?
Another stand-alone problem. It may have been harsher than today, but I'll repeat again: NOT VARIED IN NATURE AS WE HAVE TODAY.
The cattle in Egyot were plagued - that wasnt a catastrophe?
YES! Exactly my point. A redemption occurs right after.
People used to worship idols and sacrifice their kids to idols - I think that was pretty bad maybe alot worse than the BP oil spill or the "harshest winter."
Huh? I don't get your point here.

Suit yourself. I explained myself over and over. If you don't get it by now, sorry.
Kol Tuv.
Gav, in the Gemara tractate Sanhedrin 97 there is a pasuk that refers to the end of time as we commonly speak of. There it talks about the 7 year cycles and event's that have taken place throughout time. Their argument was that these events that they spoke of had occured many times throughout history. What was the difference in the time of the end? Look it up and you will see. Now if that occurs it's a hint of now.
I agree with you that bad things have happened throughout history, and sadly much worse then today. But looking at it through the geulah bloggers eyes, secular eyes, eyes of the goyim, so many suggest something is occuring. So many are saying the same thing from different angles so it does appear we are in a strange time of history.
The Torah of Moshe explains that if Israel did the correct path we would be in the end of days as such. Since we never will, is haShem going to change the reality because we continually profane the Name (Yaak and I disagree on the reasons) or are we going to continue this punishment that we see via nature. Continueing the cycle indefinatly as sefer Daniel suggests is possible.
Today I am more concerned about the immediate threat Israel is about to face via the new doctrines adopted by the Obama administration. Namely the Doctrine to Protect. I think bloggers like Dov Bar Leib and possibly Yaak see this a part of the geulah. They maybe right, or this may be another terrible pogram, G-d forbid.
I am aware of events in Israel that lead me to sense something is going on, but even I am not 100% sure as I am still waiting for more proof.
Shabbat Shalom to all.
I have no idea why you are concerned about Obama - he seems to me like a decent guy. He inherited a lot of problems and he seems to be working them out. Just 2 years ago we read from the dooms day prophets the US was about to be sunk under a failed economy. That was proven totally wrong.
Also, Obama has proven to be not the Islam lover many paranoid Jews thought he was. For goodness sake he is attacking Libya.
As to Israel we are doing quite well, we are a rich prosperous nation.
All of the gloom and doom is misplaced.
Israel IS doing quite Well BH. But the world(UN) is working around the clock to bring us down. In fact the stronger we get, the more the UN tries to break us. And By the way when America attacked Libya, which was ALSO pushed by the UN, it crashed the dollar by 30 points.
