Thank you, R' Yaak, for picking up on the last part of my series. I hope it will help lead us to merits in these crazy times before Mashiach.

Found Gidon Rothstein's article on Rambam's view of Moshiach's time interesting and just proved to me once again how I find it hard to relate to the Rambam's rationalistic views of the Messianic era. The Rambam's interpretation seems to be 'too' rational and takes away the feeling of the G-Dliness of the messianic era.
This is precisely why the counterweight for the Rambam amongst the Rishonim is the more mystical Ramban who came on the scene less than 100 years later.The Rambam and the Ramban need each other.
Thanks Reb Dov - I was thinking about the Ramban when I wrote above about the Rambam. How I so relate better to the Ramban and always loved his love of E.Y.
The Rambam (a doctor) paskens like the Amora - Shemuel (another doctor), who says that:
אין בין עולם הזה לימות המשיח אלא שעבוד מלכויות בלבד
(There is no difference between this world and the days of Mashiah except for subjugation of the nations alone.)
The gemara itself implies that there are those who disagree with Shemuel.
Furthermore, Abravanel has an intriguing interpretation of Shemuel's statement that disagrees with the way the Rambam (and most others) understands it.
I too tend to see the Messianic era in a more mystical way, but don't discount the Rambam's interpretation. I have a feeling that Hashem will make an אלו ואלו occur in a way we couldn't have imagined.
