UNESCO: Giving the Treasure to the Unwanted Leftovers

Bamidbar Rabba 20:11 talks about how the 3 times the donkey was stopped by the angel as being symbolic of the Avot.  The first time it was stopped, it had room to maneuver both to the right and to the left.  This is symbolic of Bil'am finding room to curse the children of Avraham Avinu through the children of Yishmael and the children of Ketura, who were the unwanted dregs and leftovers from Avraham Avinu.  The next time it was stopped, it could only move to one side.  This is symbolic of Bil'am finding room to curse the children of Yitzhak Avinu through the children of Esav, who were the unwanted dregs and leftovers of Yitzhak Avinu.  The third time it was stopped, it had no room to move at all.  This is symbolic of Bil'am finding no room to curse the children of Yaakov Avinu, who were all righteous.

A certain group named "Unmitigatedly Nefarious - Espousing Shams - Creating Outrage" (otherwise known as UNESCO) decided today that the Me'arat Hamachpela belongs to the non-nation called the Palestinians (וַאֲנִי אַקְנִיאֵם בְּלֹא-עָם).  These Palestinians come from Yishma'el, who is not even buried in the cave that was awarded to them.  Nor was his mother, Haggar.  Their sole link to the cave (besides Adam and Hava) is through Avraham Avinu - but even through him, they are considered the unwanted leftovers.

Edomites would have more of a claim to the property than do the Yishmaelites for a couple of reasons.  First of all, Esav descends from Avraham, Sarah, Yitzhak, and Rivka.  That's 4 links versus 1.  Secondly, Esav's head is also buried there - so we now have a 4.33:1 ratio.  Nevertheless, they too cannot lay claim to the property since they too are considered the unwanted leftovers from Yitzhak Avinu.

The only nation that can claim the site is the Jewish People, as all their forefathers and foremothers were buried there.

So UNESCO, true to their name, failed big time once again.
