The Farhud and 70 Years
Shavuot marks the 70th anniversary of the Farhud.
It may be worth a review of the pages from gog1.com that talk about the 70 years' completion of Bavel and their relation to Mashiah:
Just as there were miscalculations when to start the count of the original 70 years (see Megilla 11b), there may likewise be miscalculations regarding these 70 years. So, while the website started from the establishment of Iraq, there is ample reason to start the count from the Farhud.

Had to tell you that today's JPost paper in the comment & Feature section the big headline read like this:
"Recounting the 'Farhoud' that ended 2,400 years of Iraqi Jewry: every year before Shavuot thousands of Jews of Baghdadi origin commemorate the 1941 Nazi-led pogrom during which 700 Jews were murdered, and which brought life in Iraq to a halt. Seventy years later, some survivors recall the tragic events."

Thanks Yaak, never heard of the term "Farhud" although I knew that the Arabs persecuted the Jews in Iraq and elsewhere.
