G-d and Jerusalem

The DNC rammed through the motion to reinstate G-d and Jerusalem being Israel's capital in their party's platform, notwithstanding the more-than-one-third of delegates who opposed the motion.  It's good that they did so because had they not done so, I would have told them that I hope G-d does not remove Democrats from His platform.

Anyways, it was quite interesting that these 2 concepts - of Hashem and Yerushalayim - were constantly together.  The 2008 platform had both together.  Before the reinstatement, the Republicans complained about the absence of both of them - together.  And they were both reinstated - together.  As if Hashem and Yerushalayim were - and are - inseparable.  And that would be correct.

In fact, the Haftarah that we just read on Shabbat says (referring to Yerushalayim):
וְקָרְאוּ לָךְ עִיר יְהוָה, צִיּוֹן קְדוֹשׁ יִשְׂרָאֵל
and they shall call thee the city of the LORD, the Zion of the Holy One of Israel.
We see that Yerushalayim is called "Hashem's city".

And it was always that way.  One of the first references to Yerushalayim in the Torah is during Akeidat Yitzhak, where it says:
 וַיִּקְרָא אַבְרָהָם שֵׁם-הַמָּקוֹם הַהוּא, יְהוָה יִרְאֶה, אֲשֶׁר יֵאָמֵר הַיּוֹם, בְּהַר יְהוָה יֵרָאֶה.
And Abraham called the name of that place Adonai-jireh; as it is said to this day: 'In the mount where the LORD is seen.'
This is another reference where Hashem's name is part of Yerushalayim's name.

Not only that, but Yerusalayim is called by Hashem's name alone. The very last verse in Yehezkel states:
וְשֵׁם-הָעִיר מִיּוֹם, יְהוָה שָׁמָּה
And the name of the city from that day shall be, The LORD is there.
The simple meaning of the verse helps our case in and of itself, but when we take a look at Bava Batra 75b, we see the following:
אמר רב שמואל בר נחמני אמר רבי יונתן שלשה נקראו על שמו של הקב"ה ואלו הן צדיקים משיח וירושלים ... ירושלים דכתיב  סביב שמונה עשר אלף ושם העיר מיום ה' שמה אל תקרי שמה אלא שמה
Rav Shemuel Bar Nahmani said in the name of Ribbi Yonatan: 3 are called by the Name of HKB"H, and these are they: the righteous, Mashiah, and Yerushalayim. ... Yerushalayim, as it is written, "It shall be eighteen thousand reeds round about. And the name of the city from that day shall be, The LORD is there." Do not read it "[Hashem] is there (שָׁמָּה)", but rather, "[Hashem] is its name (שְׁמָהּ)."
Inseparable indeed.

(See the City of Yerushalayim's website for 105(!) names for Yerushalayim in Hebrew alone, let alone other languages, for more examples of this.)

Ya'ak I listened to the tape of the motion on the floor of the DNC about four or five times just to get it right. Not only did the motion to include G-d and Jerusalem as Israel's capital in their platform fail to get the 2/3rds necessary for passage even with 3 voice votes. It barely got 1/2 of the delegates to support to include them in their platform. If this sleazy, slimy 11th horn dude gets re-elected, what will American Jews do? He obviously represents an evil so great that the fundamental transformation of America will be complete. I personally know several non-Jews who are already packing to head for the Canadian border on November 7th. I hope they get there, but I am sure Harper is already thinking of contingencies to close the border when millions of Americans head for his border. We also know that West Texas will likely be the first state in the 21st Century to try to secede from the US. What are Jews planning to do?? Does anyone or any shul have a contingency plan? Last time I checked, Romney is still trailing in major battleground states like Ohio and Pennsylvania.

Dov, do you really think so many people are thinking about how bad it could get? West Texas, why not the whole of Texas? What has changed there?

Good question.I attend an Orthodox shul and many of the Jews there are voting for Obama! On our communal email list we are not allowed send out articles about Israel or talk about politics because some Liberals take offense. One woman complained that if Romney becomes POTUS he will out law abortion.

Yes, what do we do?

I can't see Rick Perry taking charge of a secession revolution in Texas. He is stuck too much into the American establishment. Seceding from the United States is too much of a radical step to expect from an Austin politician. The revolt will begin in West Texas. This Lubbock County judge, Tom Head seems to know what is up if Obama wins. Yet, you are right. Anything is possible. American independence was born in Massachusetts. But Connecticut came on board when the resolution was proposed by Virginia, and Roger Sherman saw that that the resolution had widespread support in the colonies. I have no idea how far this will get before Obama sends in the US troops or as Tom Head fears, UN troops.

But I am an Israeli first now, and an American second. So for me, I am more interested in a Jewish revolution toward common decency. And once we get that one down straight, the Torah will flower like figs on my fruit tree. Baruch HaShem we had a bountiful crop this year.

As far as Jews voting for Obama, I guess it comes with the territory. When we cease to understand that human decency is kadmah to the Torah, we should expect this idiocy even in the Orthodox world. 1/2 of the delegates at the DNC screamed "NO!" when the proposal to put G-d and Jerusalem back in the platform was placed to a voice vote. How an Orthodox, G-d fearing Jew could vote for a monster with support like this is beyond me. Maybe they should watch the Obamanation (than makes desolate) video that is making the rounds on Youtube. (I believe the artist is a Mormon.) Or maybe they are simply too far gone and have completely divorced their definition of decency from the Torah.

I should say like rimmonim on my pomegranate tree. I always wondered if I counted the seeds if there would be 613 seeds in each Rimmon.

That Jewish revolution needed to be started years ago. It's for sure needed, the rest will be straightened out later I believe. So Dov, who's behind this idea. Another area we could have a revolution is unity, what's the chance of that?

When the missiles start to fly on the Left Coast and lo and behold, the only people who lose their homes turn out to be people who voted to destroy the homes of others, the revolution will begin. Only G-d can play Pesach with missiles. So He will be behind it. When all the international LGBT organizations take up sides against us and side with our enemies, that will have the desired effect too. Jews in Tel Aviv who would think that they have engendered so much international goodwill by becoming the world's gayest city will start having to look for new friends or new mindsets. In the previous Shmittah cycle with Gog ben Gog, the choices were simple and basic, but we failed the tests. So now Unity will be forced upon us, not quite the way that Eliyahu HaNavi would have done it but with a still thin voice (the Elisha HaNavi way, hidden behind a closed door). We missed the thunderclap and light show. It starts out with derekh hateva drudgery...and teshuvah from fear since the other way did not work in the last Shmittah cycle.

And it comes in the merit of the 6 million, for in the end their suffering and sacrifice is our only collective merit. Alas the Jewish population in Eretz Yisrael has reached 6 million. A French guy on this yishuv with close connections to Jews in France told me that many French Jews made Aliyah this summer when they saw that Hollande represented the handwriting on the European wall, again quietly without fanfare. The choice to be here has always been just that, a choice to repair the Sin of the Spies, if extenuating circumstances allowed one to come. This has been especially true since 9/11 since the old vestiges of Socialism which kept people purposely poor here had disintegrated. True the Erev Rav found a new god, World Public Opinion, the Face of the Dog, but we knew with faith eventually we would get beyond it. And now they are running scared. When Hanegbi began to whine, I knew that it was time to smile again. Thanks Persia. It would have been better the other way. The kinder gentler Gog was more pleasant, but such is life and the ways of HaShem.

I agree, we missed the easy road. I know who to thank for that, but we still can scramble for the easy way, don't you think. Na.

If Medrash Sefer Eliyahu comes into full play, then 5772 and those wild launches by Persia against American dummy targets followed by the US sending minesweepers into the Persian Gulf was the beginning of a three year build-up. I believe those launches began on the 14th of Tamuz, 5772. Then the Shmittah year 5775 will be a humdinger. By then Persia will be a full fledged nuclear power. And who knows when Obama, if he is re-elected will send Samantha Powers with her Massive Protection Force to divide Jerusalem. We all know this is coming either in 5773 or 5775. The Zohar seems to hint that the international conference to do this is in 5773 after the World War in Syria. yea, I think I like the previous Shmittah cycle. Rachmanut. Avinu Malkeinu, Chaneinu veAneinu ki Ain Banu Ma'asim. Aseh imanu, Tsedakah vaChessed, veHoshieinu. It reminds me of a quote from a great American novel, Shepherd of the Hills. "In the Hills of Life there are two trails. One lies along the higher sunlit fields where those who journey see afar, and the light lingers even when the sun is down; and one leads to the lower ground, where those who travel, as they go look always over their shoulders with eyes of dread, and gloomy shadows gather long before the day is done." Let us stop missing an opportunity to miss an opportunity. Ktivah veChatimah tova.
