As far as the Avi Weiss story, the article written by Rabbi Oppenheimer - was EXCELLENT! He put out all the truth and history from the beginning of the creation of the Rabbanut in E.Y.
rabbi Avi Weiss was controversial from the start. In the last number of years, he has become a real rebel against Torah. First, with his ordination of women to become rabbis, r'l. His yeshivah has produced rabbis who believe in r'l, gay 'marriages'. Zev Brenner of Talkline Jewish radio had one of these rabbis on his flagship Sat. night show, who was a proponent of this deviation. Just the idea that Weiss had so much clout as to pressure and force the Israeli Rabbinate to cave in speaks volumes. He should have been thrown out of the RCA a long time ago, which also says a lot about the RCA, making them questionable about their dedication to Torah.
Open Orthodoxy,is an oxymoron in itself, which is what Weiss calls his version of Orthodoxy. It would be half a tzorah if he at least had the honesty to call their 'demonination' Reform and not orthodox, thus, fooling the gullible and uninformed.
What was not written in the article is that there is a worldwide movement to destroy Torah; in Israel this watering down is being shoved down the throats of the religious and, of course, with most of world Jewry knowing very little of Yiddishkeit and their intermarriages, assimilation, etc., it is not as visible, but is being promoted by the likes of Weiss.
Our sages foretold this would happen at keitz hayamim when apostasy would increase greatly, and belief in the Creator would be scorned and laughed at. Waiting for Moshiach b'rachamim.
I agree with most of what you said and what the article said. However, I don't agree that the Rabbanut or the RCA's dedication to Torah is questionable. The vast majority of the Rabbanut and of the RCA are Talmidei Hachamim, who should be respected deeply. That said, some mistakes were made along the way, it is clear.
Yaak: Did not mention the Rabbinut's dedication at all. Was referring solely to the RCA which I had read about long ago when they were being pressured to oust the rabbi and his group, but did not. Am upset that the Rabbinut in EY had to give in due to pressure, surely from the outside to accept this radical group - the Open Orthodoxy (oxymoron).
I know. Re: the Rabbanut, I was referring to what the article said.
first link doesn't work
ah, never mind, wasn't meant to be a link.
