This "backed into a corner" situation seems like it will ONLY end with Mashiach!
I feel it is "the twilight zone" between our past (history) and the Geula (our future).
I think we need to look for more fulfilled prophecies and simanim of the redemption, which I imagine the Gedolim are aware of ... But should be spelled out for all of us.
