Sod1820: Calculating the Geula Clock of the Gra and Where We Are Currently Standing

[YY - translated from here.  A portion of the Zohar mentioned was previously discussed by Rav Fish Shlit"a, Rav Shmuel Eliyahu Shlit"a, and earlier by yours truly]

I want to bring before you a small idea from the Zohar on the Perasha of the week - Parshat Va'et'hanan - which connects very well to the matter of the Redemption and the timing in which we are holding.

It is important to not that the matter will be clearer to someone who recognizes the clock of the Gra - who compares the 6 days of Creation to the 6000 years [of the world] where every day of Creation is like 1000 years [based on the verse כִּי אֶלֶף שָׁנִים, בְּעֵינֶיךָ-- כְּיוֹם אֶתְמוֹל, כִּי יַעֲבֹר "For a thousand years in Thy sight are but as yesterday] when it is past", and according to the calculation, we are now in the sixth day.  In the year 5750 began 12:00 noon and in the year 5770, we reached 12:30 PM.  Every hour in the Gra's clock equals 41 years and 8 months in human years.  Every minute in the Gra's clock equals 8 months and 10 days...  It's very important to understand this clock in order to understand ideas in the Zohar very well...  So, for your information, before we enter into the Zohar, the time in Hashem's clock is 12:35 PM and very soon, the minute will change to 12:36.  Now, to get to the Zohar of the Perasha of the week - Parshat Va'et'hanan...

The Holy Zohar says, p. 270a:

And at the End of Days, HKB"H is destined to return Israel to the Holy Land and to bring them in from exile.  And what is the "End of Days"? That which is "Aharit Hayamim".  In this "Aharit Hayamim", Israel will suffer the exile.  This is meant when it says: בַּצַּר לְךָ--וּמְצָאוּךָ, כֹּל הַדְּבָרִים הָאֵלֶּה; בְּאַחֲרִית, הַיָּמִים [In thy distress, when all these things are come upon thee, in the end of days] and it says: וְקָרָאת אֶתְכֶם הָרָעָה, בְּאַחֲרִית הַיָּמִים [and evil will befall you in the end of days].  Specifically, at the End of Days.  And this is "Knesset Yisrael" [YY - i.e. the Shechina] in exile.  And with this "End of Days", they accepted a punishment in exile, and with this, HKB"H will avenge Israel constantly.  This is meant when it says אֲשֶׁר יַעֲשֶׂה הָעָם הַזֶּה לְעַמְּךָ, בְּאַחֲרִית הַיָּמִים [what this people shall do to thy people in the end of days].   And in every place, this is It [the Shechina], and HKB"H is destined to return it to Its place.  That is meant when it says וְהָיָה בְּאַחֲרִית הַיָּמִים, נָכוֹן יִהְיֶה הַר בֵּית-יְהוָה בְּרֹאשׁ הֶהָרִים [And it shall come to pass in the end of days, that the mountain of the LORD'S house shall be established as the top of the mountains].

The Zohar continues:

And once the shadow begins to be made in the beginning of the next day [after the 5th millennium], it was like the time when the Beit Hamikdash was destroyed - that the shadow was stretching to be gathered, as it says: אוֹי לָנוּ כִּי-פָנָה הַיּוֹם, כִּי יִנָּטוּ צִלְלֵי-עָרֶב ['Woe unto us! for the day declineth, for the shadows of the evening are stretched out!'].  A day and a shadow is the end of the exile.  And the measurement of this shadow is 6.5 Kematzim and the size of the measurement of a man - a man among men.  And the mnemonic of this secret among the rabbis is as it says כִּי-תְמוֹל אֲנַחְנוּ, וְלֹא נֵדָע: כִּי צֵל יָמֵינוּ עֲלֵי-אָרֶץ [For we are but of yesterday, and know nothing, because our days upon earth are a shadow]  For yesterday, we were in exile, and we didn't know that the shadow of our days is on the earth - that HKB"H wants to keep us [this measurement of time - a day and a shadow] on the earth.

From these words, we can understand that the end of exile will be when the shadow of that day - the shadow of the sixth day - will occur.  As is known, before the invention of sophisticated clocks, time measurement was performed via the sun - in a way that they could know what time it is according to the shadow.  Then, the Zohar says - when it's talking about the hour in which this shadow will occur - 6.5 Kematzim and the size of the measurement of a man - a man among men.  [This means:] 6.5 Kematzim are 6.5 hours from the morning of the day.  In other words, 12:30.  And the size of the measurement of man - a man among men means that after 12:30, we must wait a little more time, just as an average man says: "Just a second" and then, we wait about 5 minutes, so too with the Redemption.  And with Hashem's help, now at 12:35-12:36, Mashiah will come.

[The post continues and calculates the items in the subsequent words of the Zohar to equal 1775, which could equal the "day and shadow" or, as the post says, 1000 = אלופו של עולם will redeem us in 775.  ע"ש.]

Iran and Eicha

One of the parts of Eicha that struck me yesterday was this verse (Eicha 2:17):

עָשָׂה יְהוָה אֲשֶׁר זָמָם, בִּצַּע אֶמְרָתוֹ אֲשֶׁר צִוָּה מִימֵי-קֶדֶם--הָרַס, וְלֹא חָמָל; וַיְשַׂמַּח עָלַיִךְ אוֹיֵב, הֵרִים קֶרֶן צָרָיִךְ

The LORD hath done that which He devised; He hath performed His word that He commanded in the days of old; He hath thrown down unsparingly; and He hath caused the enemy to rejoice over thee, He hath exalted the horn of thine adversaries.

With Iran's gloating over the deal, this verse is all too real.

Let's take a look at what Eicha Rabbati has to say about this verse.

"עָשָׂה ה' אֲשֶׁר זָמָם" ר' אהבה בריה דר' זעירא אמר משעה שאמר הקדוש ברוך הוא (ויקרא כו,): "ואם עד אלה לא תשמעו לי וגו' והלכתי אף אני עמכם בקרי" שמא כך עשה ח"ו אלא "עָשָׂה ה' וְגוֹ'" "[בִּצַּע אֶמְרָתוֹ]" פשורי מפשר ר' יעקב דכפר חנן אמר בזע פרפורין שלו.

"The LORD hath done that which He devised."  R' Ahava the son of R' Ze'ira said: From the time that HKB"H said, "And if ye will not yet for these things hearken unto Me ... then will I also walk contrary unto you [בקרי - with Kerry]." Perhaps he did so, Has Veshalom?!?! Rather, [read it as follows: "Did Hashem do that which He devised? No. Rather, בזע אמרתו means] he diluted the punishment [half justice, half mercy]. R' Yaakov of Kefar Hanan said: He tore His raiment. [See Anaf Yosef both here and on Eicha Rabbati 1:1 for 2 fascinating explanations what this means.]

The Midrash continues:

"וַיְשַׂמַּח עָלַיִךְ אוֹיֵב" א"ר אחא בטובה הוא שמח עמהם דכתיב (דברים ל,): "כי ישוב ה' לשוש עליך לטוב כאשר שש על אבותיך" אבל ברעה משמח הוא אחרים הה"ד"וישמח עליך אויב הרים קרן צריך" ועל זה נאמר "צָעַק לִבָּם אֶל ה' חוֹמַת בַּת צִיּוֹן הוֹרִידִי וְגוֹ'":

"and He hath caused the enemy to rejoice over thee."  R' Aha said: In good times, He is joyous with them, as it says "for the LORD will again rejoice over thee for good, as He rejoiced over thy fathers." However, in bad times, He causes others to rejoice, and this is meant when it says, "and He hath caused the enemy to rejoice over thee, He hath exalted the horn of thine adversaries." And upon this, it says [the next verse in Eicha]: "Their heart cried unto the Lord: 'O wall of the daughter of Zion...'"

I would humbly like to suggest that although there doesn't seem to be a strong connection between the 2 halves of the verse, nevertheless, the 2 parts of the verse - as the Midrash describes them - are connected and also referring to our days.

Hashem, in the Tochaha of Vayikra, "devised" a terrible punishment for us when we do not hearken to His voice.  (And, as the verse states, that plan would be "with Kerry".)  However, if that plan would have been realized, the Jewish nation would not have survived, G-d forbid. Therefore, in His infinite mercy, He decided to dilute the punishment that He planned in the days of old.

How? By enacting the second half of the verse only: "and He hath caused the enemy to rejoice over thee, He hath exalted the horn of thine adversaries." I say "only", but in reality, the exalting of the horn of our enemies is the worst of all troubles [see Etz Yosef on this Midrash ד"ה ועל זה נאמר]. This is why, as it says in the next few verses, we are crying our hearts out to Hashem - almost the entire Jewish nation is bemoaning and fighting the Iran deal. Some our crying out to Hashem, some are crying out to their senators, some are crying out to Netanyahu, but when push comes to shove, all will turn to Hashem eventually.

On that, the Midrash says that in good times, Hashem will be joyous with us. The verse used to prove that is from Parshat Nitzavim in the verses that talk about the days of Mashiah. We see that the Midrash is contrasting this period of Hevlei Mashiah to the period of the days of Mashiah.

May the worst of the Iran deal be only that our enemies are very temporarily exalted, and may that soon turn around in a miraculous way as our prophets have prophesied throughout the ages to bring us to the days of Mashiah, speedily in our days, Amen.
