Chicago's Galut is Over - Cubs Win First World Series in 108 Years
The Chicago Cubs, who were down 3 games to 1 in the World Series to the Cleveland Indians, came back to win 3 in a row to win it all. And the way they won game 7 is incredible - an extra-inning rain-delayed affair where the Cubs scored 2 in the 10th and the Indians scored 1.
As a Cubs fan who remembers 1984, 1989, 1998, 2003 (oy!), 2007, 2008, and last year, all I have to say is:
THIS IS THE YEAR!!!!!
No more "Wait 'till next year." THIS IS THE YEAR!!!!!
No more Billy goat. No more Bartman. No more ball going under Leon Durham's legs.
As a long-suffering Cub-fan, I realize that there are even older Cub fans who have suffered longer than I have. The 108-year Galut has been long and painful for many. The Cub "Geula" feels so sweet.
An elderly man who passed away this year used to say:
When the Cubs are winning, Mashiah is קומען!
As I wrote many years ago when the South-siders won 11 years ago, the comparison is quite apt.
May it be a sign that the 1948-year Galut will soon come to an end.
