Russia fires on and seizes Ukrainian ships near annexed Crimea

MOSCOW/KIEV (Reuters) - Russia seized three Ukrainian naval ships off the coast of Russia-annexed Crimea on Sunday after opening fire on them and wounding several sailors, a move that risks igniting a dangerous new crisis between the two countries.

1. It is quite noteworthy that this took place immediately after we read Parashat Vayishlah and its Haftarah from Ovadia, talking about the final clash with Edom.
2. The ships were headed toward the Sea of Azov, which sounds eerily similar to the Sea of Esav.
3. It happened near in the Kerch Strait, near Kerch, which the Russians captured a few years ago, and where Rav Shternbuch relayed to us a tradition from the Vilna Ga'on that when the Russians capture Kerch, expect the footsteps of Mashiah.  Perhaps now, they have not only captured Kerch and the entire Crimea, but they have additionally taken control of the previously international waters around it as well, constituting a complete capture of the area.
