Geula Update and Other Cool Tidbits from Rav Fish and Friends

  • We know from many sources that the Geula process is similar to the process of childbirth.  For example, Hevlei Mashiah (birth pangs of Mashiah) is often compared to Hevlei Leida (birth pangs of childbirth).  R' Siboni mentioned the idea that the opening of the Degania Dam, which is widely expected very soon, symbolizes a mother in labor having her water break:
and considers this an advanced step in the Geula process.
  • The second verse in this week's Parasha reads:
2 If thou buy a Hebrew servant, six years he shall serve; and in the seventh he shall go out free for nothing.
Rav Fish, in his latest newsletter, notes that עבד עברי (a Hebrew servant) is the gematria of משיח (Mashiah) and the word ובשבעת (and in the seventh) is the gematria of  תש"פ (or 5780).  In other words, BE"H Mashiah will go out free this year to do what he is destined to do.
  • Rav Fish also notest that כ"ז שבט תש"פ is the gematria of the verse of שמע ישראל ה' אלקינו ה' אחד.  And the gematria of the milui of כ"ז שבט is the gematria of ברוך שם כבוד מלכותו לעולם ועד.
  • We know about the secret of the number 1820.  One interesting thing about that number is that it is the number of times Hashem's name appears in the Torah.  Some others, I mentioned here.

This week is Shabbat Shekalim.  Some communities recite Yotzerot on Shabbat Shekalim.  Part of the Yotzerot of Shabbat Shekalim are 39 "Melachot" that Hashem performed when He created the world.  These can be found on the bottom of this page going into the next page.

The introduction to the book "Pe'at Hashulhan" quotes the Vilna Gaon in saying that these 39 Melachot with which Hashem created the world are the reason why 39 Melachot are forbidden on Shabbat.

The 39 "Melachot" with which Hashem created the world are:
The total gematria of these words is 24,139.

The 39 Melachot which are forbidden on Shabbat are:
The total gematria of these words is 25,959.

Rav Fish quotes the Haggada called "בני בכורי ישראל" who says that the difference between the numbers is exactly 1820. As we know, Hashem looked into the Torah and created the world, which is why Hashem's name appears 1820 times in the Torah. Therefore, the Piyut that talks about how Hashem created the world plus 1820 is the exact gematria of the 39 Melachot, which were created in the world via Hashem's Holy Name.

With all respect to the rav, i'm curious to know how one can say when moshiach will come after having done so for years and been wrong so many times. My gut feeling is that someone is misinterpreting him intentionally.

Might it be more appropriate to say that it is an opportune time for him to come but to flat out say when he will come by is very strongly frowned upon in the gemara sanhedrin.

First of all, what rav are you referring to and which reference are you referring to?

If you are referring to my statement in the post: "In other words, BE"H Mashiah will go out free this year to do what he is destined to do." - I should clarify that this is not a quote from Rav Fish, but my own interpretation of what he said.

Secondly, nowhere in the post did I or Rav Fish flatly state that he will come this year. It is implied that all statements to Mashiah coming are, as you said, expressing how it is an opportune time for him to come.

Thank you for allowing me to clarify these points.
