חיל בלע ויקאנו and Gilad Shalit
1027 soldiers are destined to be exchanged for Gilad Shalit.
1027 is the gematria of חיל בלע ויקאנו מבטנו ירשנו אל - as drush, one might say Al Tikri Hayil, Elah Hayal, meaning Hamas has swallowed up a soldier for many years, and is now spitting him out - from the belly of Hamas, Hashem will throw him out.
As another way of interpreting the verse, one can see what we learn in Sanhedrin 106b from this verse. It says there (per Rashi's interpretation) that David Hamelech asked Hashem to kill Do'eg. Hashem responded חיל בלע ויקאנו - he learned a lot of Torah, so wait until he forgets it all. David Hamelech asked Hashem מבטנו ירשנו אל - please don't wait - make Do'eg forget his Torah already.
Similarly, we have to endure the wait of getting Gilad out by releasing Palestinian prisoners due to whatever merits Yishmael has. We plead to Hashem to erase the merits of Yishmael and not wait any longer.
The same is true at the macro level. Please, Hashem, erase the merits of both Edom and Yishmael so we don't have to endure this Galut any longer.
This verse is also Kabbalisticly used for its Rashei Teivot, which spells out a Holy Name, which is used to gather the holy sparks from the Kelipot - as a rectification of the Pegam Berit. Gilad returning home is a symbol of the return of the holy sparks to their rightful place.
May Gilad come home soon and may all the holy sparks be rectified soon and taken out of the Kelipot, speedily in our days, Amen.

The truth is that Gilad could have been freed much easier over five years ago had the Israeli government threatened to kill all of the terrorists. However, this is not a politically correct thing to do, especially in an anti-Torah based government, so this will never happen, even though this is the far more logical thing to do. But after all is said or done, let's hope that Moshiach comes before any of the released animals from the zoo, Chas V'Shalom, have a chance to do further harm.
I believe what you wrote about the "Rashei Teivot" is very important, as it relates to the efforts to protect children from abusers, which may also include those korbanos taken from among us.
A deterrent? threatening to kill the terrorists? They can't wait to die in a suicide "action". So of course how do you imagine our enemies would have reacted? Returning tremblingly the hostage, in exchange for the dead bodies of their militants to give them burial? Or perhaps, G-d forbid, something else?
Yes, Daniela. Maybe you think it is better to release over 1,000 of these terrorist animals for one Jew, but these terrorists aren't so stupid as you think, except for the Israeli government. They would not be ready to committ mass suicide if they feel they would have a chance later to hurt more Jews at a later date. So OK, let's not threaten to kill all of the terrorists, just one at a time. Either way, it would be a far more effective way to release Gilad, and if as a result of threatening the terrorists, war would brake out, then good, because this would be a chance to accomplish what Olmert refused to do in two wars since Gilad's capture, and stopped both wars short giving in to world/Arab pressure.
At the very least, dead terrorists can't commit further atrocities.
I wouldn't have a problem had you people suggested bombing flat the strip on wednesday, or more appropriately, at the first hostile act (i.e. regardless of the people inside it, innocent ones included, and that IDF may find necessary to kill for deterrence purposes). That you suggest to derail the swap at this time, citing hypotetic dangers in the face of sure death to a fellow jew, is despicable. People claim this is how they hold, people claim it's their moral principles, but all along these long years, I have not heard anyone asking the Red Cross to arrange a 1-1 swap. That is to say, going themselves - or sending their own child - in place of Gilad.
