Rav Fish Quoting the Gr"a on Long Leap Years
A Hebrew calendar year can have 353, 354, or 355 days in a non-leap year, and 383, 384, or 385 days in a leap year.
Rav Fish quotes the Gr"a's commentary on Tikkunei Zohar (Word doc, p. 21), where he says that a year of 385 days is considered complete according to both the lunar and solar calendars. This is derived from the verse כִּי-בְשִׂמְחָה תֵצֵאוּ, וּבְשָׁלוֹם תּוּבָלוּן [For ye shall go out with joy, and be led forth with peace], which is a verse that deals with the Final Redemption. The word שמחה [joy] has the gematria of 353 - corresponding to the number of days in the shortest lunar year. Add the ב making בשמחה, and you get a full non-leap year of 355 days. However, without adding 30 days - as we do in leap years - it will not be complete in the solar year. When we add כי making כי בשמחה, then we have a full year of 385 days, which is complete according to both lunar and solar calendars. And 385 is the gematria of שכינה, which should become full.
Rav Fish notes that we see from the words of the Gr"a that a 385-day year is auspicious for Redemption. And if you notice from the chart below, four leap-years in a row have 385 days - something that hasn't happened in recent history: 5771, 5774, 5776, and 5779.
(Rav Fish's statement that there are only three 385-day leap-years in a row and there are no more 385-day years after 5776 until the end of the millennium is apparently in error. Perhaps, he meant no more 4 consecutive 385-day leap-years until the end of the millennium, which I haven't verified, but believe to be very possible.)
Furthermore, Rav Fish brings down another source in Tikkunei Zohar that 385 is a Sod of Redemption and yet another source in Tikkunei Zohar that a leap year hints to the unification of Redemption.
Especially due to the prevalence of 385-day years during this decade, may this year be the year where we see our Final Redemption, Amen.

4 Comments:
Years 5708 (1948 Israeli Independence) and 5727 (Six Day War Recapture of West Bank and Gaza) both had 385 days.
Yes, I noticed that. They're also 19 years apart, so their years are similar.
Yaak 'ol buddy, you say "may this year be the year where we see our Final Redemption!"
It does NOT come in a day!
It is A PROCESS!
Can you not get that? It is NOT a SUDDEN, ALL-OR-NONE spectacle! IT IS A PROCESS - and like it or not, believe it or not - WE ARE IN IT !!
Vanguard ol pal,
I'm not sure what you think it is that I am not "getting".
I agree that it is a process, and I also realize that when it is ready, it comes suddenly. There are dozens of sources for that.
And your "Rebbe as Mashiah" posts that vilify those who don't agree are not what I would call promoting achdus in Klal Yisrael, which is part of the aforementioned process. You claim that we have to know who Mashiah is right now, when such a definite identification many rightly consider dangerous.
