Ladaat reports that Rav Kanievsky was presented with a new Sefer on the laws of Shevi'it called "הליכות השביעית" by Rav Menachem Mendel Pomerantz Shlit"a. When he received the Sefer, he said the Yiddish equivalent of "Baruch Hashem, the public is learning about Shemita."

While holding the Sefer in his hands, he said the following (quoted in Ladaat):

אמרו חז"ל: במוצאי שביעית בן דוד בא. החזון איש אמר שאם לא לומדים הלכות שביעית, אזי לא ניתן להגדיר זאת כ'שביעית'. וממילה ההבטחה של חז"ל תבוא בעזרת ה', אחרי שבשביעית ילמדו את ההלכות וייקמו אותן כדבעי, אזי בעזר ה' במוצאי שביעית יבוא בן דוד ויגאלנו.

My translation:

Haza"l said: On Motza'ei Shevi'it, Ben David comes. The Hazon Ish said that if people do not learn the laws of Shevi'it, then one cannot categorize this as "Shevi'it". And it follows that the promise of Haza"l will come with Hashem's help when on Shevi'it, people will learn the laws and keep it properly, then on Motza'ei Shevi'it, Ben David will come and redeem us.

Power breakdown plunges Pakistan into darkness

Pakistan was plunged into darkness after a key power transmission line broke down early on Sunday in an incident blamed on a rebel attack, the latest reminder of the country's crippling energy crisis.
The power failure, one of the worst Pakistan has experienced, caused electricity to be cut in major cities throughout the country, including the capital Islamabad.
It was later restored in much of the country, with the national power company saying normal distribution would resume within hours.
Officials said the blackout began after midnight when a transmission line connecting a privately-run power plant to the national grid was damaged.
A senior official at the National Grid station in Islamabad said around 80 percent of the country was hit by power breakdown.

2 Arabian Leaders Deposed in a Day

Yemen's president quit, which is not good for the US fight against Al-Qaeda, and is certainly not good for the few remaining Jews living there.

King Abdullah of Saudi Arabia has died, leaving the country in the hands of Salman (who, by the way, is suspected of having dementia and Alzheimer's). Perhaps, a hint that our monarchy will also soon be restored to a descendant of Salmon - son of Nahshon and father of Bo'az. אכי"ר.

Ramban and Rav Fish on "La'asot"

Bereishit 2:3:

וַיְבָרֶךְ אֱלֹהִים אֶת-יוֹם הַשְּׁבִיעִי, וַיְקַדֵּשׁ אֹתוֹ: כִּי בוֹ שָׁבַת מִכָּל-מְלַאכְתּוֹ, אֲשֶׁר-בָּרָא אֱלֹהִים לַעֲשׂוֹת
And God blessed the seventh day, and hallowed it; because that in it He rested from all His work which God in creating had made.

The famous Ramban on Bereishit 2:3, where he compares each of the six millennia to the six days of creation, states that the basis for this comparison stems from the word לעשות. He starts off this idea when he says (my translation):

ודע כי נכלל עוד במלת "לַעֲשׂוֹת" כי ששת ימי בראשית הם כל ימות עולם כי קיומו יהיה ששת אלפים שנה ...
And know that also included in the word "La'asot" is that the six days of Creation encompass all the days of the world because its existence will last six thousand years...

The Chavel Ramban quotes the Levush on the Rekanati, who explains this by saying (my translation):

כי מלת לעשות משמע שיעשו ויפעלו עוד כל ימות העולם את פעולתם
For the word "La'asot" implies that all the days of the world will do and perform their duties further.

Rav Fish's latest says that this word לעשות hints to ל-תשע"ו, meaning that the entire Creation was a preparation for the year תשע"ו. According to the this Ramban, one can say more simply that all the days of the world will continue to perform their duties in the normal way until the תשע"ו year of the sixth millennium.

(Even though the end of that Ramban gives a explicit Ketz of 5118, that's because he wanted it closer to his time and didn't want to delay it too much, but from the word in the Torah that the Ramban uses to convey this idea, 5776 works perfectly.)

Incidentally, Rav Fish quotes R' Yosef Marciano who says that the statement from the Hagaddah:

בָּרוּךְ שׁוֹמֵר הַבְטָחָתוֹ לְיִשְׂרָאֵל, בָּרוּךְ הוּא. שֶׁהַקָּדוֹשׁ בָּרוּךְ הוּא חִשַּׁב אֶת הַקֵּץ, לַעֲשׂוֹת ...

can also hint that Kivyachol, HKB"H calculated the Ketz to תשע"ו.
