Psalm 21, The Mabul, Ukraine, and Mashiah

There is a well-known statement of the Gr"a (also mentioned here) whereby he says that the 70 words in Psalm 20 correspond to the 70 years of the birthpangs of Mashiah.

In this old post, I wanted to extend the 70 words from Chapter 20 to continue in Chapter 21.  And just as was stated in that post, there is reason to assume that the 70 years started in 5701, as it seems that Rav Fish is a proponent of that idea based on the Zohar (see the very beginning of this post).

Note that Metzudat DavidMidrash Shocher Tov, and one interpretation in the Rada"k agree that this chapter - Chapter 21 - is talking about Mashiah.

Along those lines, here is the beginning of that chapter:

א  לַמְנַצֵּחַ, מִזְמוֹר לְדָוִד.1 For the Leader. A Psalm of David.
ב  יְהוָה, בְּעָזְּךָ יִשְׂמַח-מֶלֶךְ;    וּבִישׁוּעָתְךָ, מַה-יגיל (יָּגֶל) מְאֹד.2 O LORD, in Thy strength the king rejoiceth; and in Thy salvation how greatly doth he exult!
ג  תַּאֲוַת לִבּוֹ, נָתַתָּה לּוֹ;    וַאֲרֶשֶׁת שְׂפָתָיו, בַּל-מָנַעְתָּ סֶּלָה.3 Thou hast given him his heart's desire, and the request of his lips Thou hast not withholden. Selah

Notice that, as we are in the year 5782, we have entered verse 3, with the word "תאות" being the 82nd word since the beginning of Tehillim 20:1.

Note further that the gematria of verse 3 equals 4126, which is exactly the number of years since the Mabul (in the year 1656).

We can look at this idea in a couple ways:

1) Fulfilling Desires

The Dor HaMabul was a time of unchecked desires running rampant.  Hashem needed to put an end to it via the Mabul.  Contrast that with Hashem fulfilling all of Mashiah's desires and wishes.

How could Hashem do that?  Don't we see from the Mabul that Hashem halts unchecked desires?

The obvious answer is that the Dor Hamabul's desires lead to sin and destruction, and that's what needed to be stopped - as we know that תאוה is one of the 3 things that bring a person out of the world.  Mashiah's desires, on the other hand, are to rid the word of evil, and that is something Hashem is willing to grant him.

2) Punishment for the wicked

The Mabul was obviously a punishment for the wicked.  The way the Midrash explains this verse in Tehillim shows that Hashem will fulfill the desires and decrees of Mashiah to punish anyone wicked whom he wishes to punish.

The gematria of the verse teaches us that the connection of 5782 to the year of the Mabul is no coincidence.

And we can clearly see Hashem's punishment to the wicked being enacted Bedavka in 5782 against the nation of Ukraine (especially after today's news about the Bucha massacre), who were clearly wicked in previous generations, and haven't really done much Teshuva for their evil, as I wrote previously.  The Russians will get their due as well in due time, along with all the nations who harassed the Chosen Nation.

May this year be the year when Mashiah's desires are fulfilled and the evil of the world will be abolished forever.
