Rav Shteinman: Ge'ula Close!

Hashem1.net (in his first post in a while) reports (via the magazine Bikhilah) that Rav Aharon Leib Shteinman said "The awakening of the Jewish world in the Diaspora, as far as we can see, testifies that it is clear that the arrival of Mashiah is close!"

The crowd who heard this was apparently left stunned.

Rav Steinman now speaks like his fellow traveler. I do not take their now common word for it.

Mida K'neged Mida. I do not wish to detail, Moshiach will not come according to the words of those who rather tip the party line than speak up for the truth. Where is the Cheshbon Nefesh?

People, rabbanim, tzaddikim have been saying that Moshiach's time is near for hundreds of years. Now is no different. It's an opiate for the masses. The holocaust generation said it to give themselves courage to persevere and because they saw signs that pointed to it. Every single generation has that and sees its own signs and hints in Tanach and Chazal. It's getting old. It'll happen when it happens. Don't hold your breath and point to signs.

The awakening of the Jewish world in the diaspora? Is he kidding?

The few that have woken up, did so long ago. The rest of Jewish world in the diaspora is still very much asleep.

What is he talking about?

Can someone tell us who Rav Shteinman is?

Rav Shteinman is a mensch. But. But. But. We are still waiting for him to forcefully speak up against the rebellion against and defiance of the Truth, signified by the ban against Rav Slifkin. And we are still waiting for Rav Shteinman to roundly condemn the Charedi support for expelling settlers and giving way Eretz Yisrael to Sonei Yisrael. Yaak, the frum are attacking Kavod HaTorah. When will you get it?

I don't want this thread to put Rav Shteinman on trial. It's not any of our place to do so. He's one of the Gedolei Hador for the Litvak Ashkenazic commnuity (in leadership, second only to Rav Elyashiv).

Anonymous #2: I do point to signs since it's a way to be Tzofeh Lishu'a. Even if it doesn't work out, it's worth it for the Tzipiah Lishu'a. If you're a person who gets discouraged when things don't work out, either 1) strengthen your emuna or 2) don't read my blog

Yaak, the frum are attacking Kavod HaTorah. When will you get it?
Unfortunately, this happens on blogs everywhere. I wish I could do a more adequate job defending Kavod Hatorah. R' Gil at Hirhurim and Bari Veshema do better jobs.

Why would the halacha yomit find it necessary to claim kavod speficially for Rav Yosef? Did you ever hear of a "gadol" who needed such defense? Why would this be? Think, my dear brother. And after that, rethink, rethink.

As for Rav Steinmann, there is no comparison. But I am afraid the whole frum world stands trial now. As you feel associated, having promoted Shas even, I suggest you put on sackcloth. The time may well be very short. Think. Rethink.

Anonymous,

First of all, Halacha Yomit is run by students of Rav Yosef, so to name him specifically is not out of the ordinary.

Secondly, the frum world is what's helping keep Torah alive in the world. Knocking it is like cutting off your nose to spite your face or biting off the hand that feeds you - pick your cliche.

Maybe you should be the one thinking and rethinking.

True Torah maintains the world, false Torah destroys it. We therefore must test those who claim to teach Torah.

True Torah shines outside the Arba Amot, and that is its test.

True Torah is a light that shines into the world. For instance, the carriers of true knowledge of the secrets Torah generate secular knowledge as a matter of course. Their advice in every matter brings life. Their Midot constitute a proof of their teachings.

If you are honest, you know how rare this is.

The mainstream of what is called the Torah world fails every test outside the Arba Amot. Primitive superstition and illiteracy are the rule, sophistication is the excepton. We see very bad Midot among Torah "giants", we see rabbis (OY among them) who curse as much as they bless.

If you see how the missteps in Israeli politics that brought so much death and destruction were sanctioned by the religious, don't you see how false Torah litterally destroys the world? Don't you see why people of truth have a holy obligation to reject those dared to speak here in the name of Torah?

If you see Torah "giants" with no knowledge of Science whatsoever issue bans and psakim about what they do not know, don't you see how false Torah destroys the name of Torat HaShem?

I did a lot of thinking, Yaak, and I found an aweful lot of Sheker in places that you consider holy. The lack of Midot is horrendous. Mistakes, and so many are made, are never ever acknowledged. The Chillul HaShem is Atzum, the Kitrug mountain high.

Though I know your position is partly one of innocence, I must rebuke you. The proof of what I say is public.

I must thank you for your rebuke. I love rebuke. As far as I'm concerned, you can rebuke me from today until tomorrow.

However, for the Kavod of Torah, I must protest your implications regarding the great leaders of our generation.

You have points. Valid points. Some points that I even agree with. However, I can not, will not, and shall not agree with your conclusion. Others on other blogs think like you. I, however, stand with the minority - the minority that's in the right.

So, please go on to give me Tochaha. I truly deserve it.
However, by no means can you talk that way about our leaders אשר מפיהם אנו חיים

May the blog world help to bring down the leaders, religious and secular, that brought us so much death, spiritual and physical.
