5 Tevet Update: No Rain Today :(
Is the Sadigerer Rebbe's merit over?
I posted in 5767 about the Sadigerer Rebbe's blessing on his yahrtzeit - 5 Tevet - the following:
Tuesday was the 5th of Tevet. It rained in Israel.And then again in 5770, and again in 5771, and again in 5772.
Last year, on the 5th of Tevet, it rained.
The year before, on the 5th of Tevet, it rained.
In fact, it rained every year on the 5th of Tevet - even in years of severe drought - since the passing of the Sadigerer Rebbe on the 5th of Tevet, 5721 - over 45 years ago.
The Sadigerer Rebbe's last words were, "Am Yisrael needs rain!"
The power of the righteous is greater in death than in life.

Today, 5 Tevet, 5773, alas, it seems that there was no rain.
Well, perhaps, the unusual amount of rain accumulated until now makes up for it, and the blessing was for only when we really needed it.
Or, perhaps, the blessing was to last 50 years from the date of his first yahrtzeit and no more.

the beit yosef holds that a family need only acknowlegde the 1st 50 yahrtzeits and no more.

So as I just discovered, though, it rained for 51 years straight on his Yahrzeit from 5762 until and including 5772.
That's what I wrote - 50 years from his first yahrtzeit.
I think because we have entered a New Era here in Eretz Yisrael where the light of Mashiach shines into the 5th year of the last Shmittah cycle, the string of rainy 5th of Tevets was broken in 5773. With the passing of the 5th Admor of Sadigora last week on January 1st (19 Tevet 5773) suddenly this past Shabbat, the gates of rain have opened up all over Eretz Yisrael in a way that I have not seen it before in over nine years here. (I am in my 10th winter here.) It is pouring and pouring. And now heavy snow is expected late this coming Wednesday on the Judean/ Shomron ridge. I pray it is for bracha. Yet, the Left Coast is notorious for behavior that lead to Hurricane Sandy. They are proud of it. Oy
I did it again. I meant from 5722 until and including 5772.
Did it rain in 5722 on the 5th of Tevet?
