Rabbi Student's article about Pollard and Birkat HaGomel was interesting. He mentioned "if his movement is restricted within the country, he would not recite the blessing because he lacks freedom."
Is the United States is an open air prison?
Yes, I believe you are very close to the reality when you ask, is the us an open air prison. Besides, Rabbi Student overlooks that
Jonathan was in very ill situations that threatened his life and had to be sent to the hosp. It's very nice to write a scholarly piece, but it's better to be close to the reality of a situation.
He also wrote: "after pleading guilty to spying on the United States."
Jonathan Pollard would take great exception to that sentence. He has made it abundantly clear on many occasions that he did not spy AGAINST the US, but FOR Israel. In fact, he reported on the Arab countries to Israel using information obtained through US auspices.
