Congrats to Reuven Rivlin, Israel's Next President

Reuven (Ruby) Rivlin was elected the 10th President of Israel.  Congratulations!

Judging by what I wrote when Peres was elected 7 years ago, Ruby Rivlin would then be Armilus.  Of course, I don't consider him Armilus.  I only wish him the best. העשירי יהיה קדש לה'.

Also 7 years ago, I defended Rav Ovadia ZT"L's decision to support Peres at the time.  ע"ש.  No need to rehash that now, but suffice it to say that it was Da'at Torah.  Period.

Eli Yishai explained at the time that they couldn't hurt Peres after not voting for him and choosing Moshe Katzav in the elections prior to then.  Rav Ovadia at the time also praised Rivlin as worthy for the position and his true friend, despite not being able to vote for him.  Rav Yitzhak Yosef Shlit"a told President-elect Rivlin at Rav Ovadia's shiva that there was no one running as worthy as him, and after he won, the President-elect talked with him to thank him for his support.

What is interesting (like I mentioned previously) is that PM Netanyahu, who is a descendant of the Vilna Gaon is the Prime Minister who is watching the transfer of Presidential leadership from Shimon Peres, a descendant of Rav Chaim Volozhin, to Ruby Rivlin, about whom Jpost writes:
Rivlin was born 74 years ago in Jerusalem, to a family descended from students of the Vilna Gaon, who lived in the city since the 19th century.
This is very likely a reference to Rav Hillel Rivlin of Shklov, the author of Kol Hator, who made Aliya to Eretz Yisrael in 5569 (1809) based on the Vilna Gaon's directives.

Rav Chaim Volozhin ZT"L represents the Volozhin Yeshiva Jew, where the Yeshiva was dubbed "the mother of all Lithuanian-style yeshivas".  Rav Hillel of Shklov ZT"L represents the Eretz Yisrael Jew - also steeped in Torah, but the Torah of Eretz Yisrael.  We are now past Minha Gedola of the Sixth Millennium and heading toward Shabbat, and a time when Israel has more Jews than any other country on earth.  It is now the era of The Torah of Eretz Yisrael.

Another interesting thing there in JPost:
Rivlin has known Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu since childhood; in fact, he attended the now-prime minister's Brit.
Joined together early-on at a Mitzvah, despite their tumultuous relationship, they now have the chance to continue the Mitzvah, and hand-off the leadership to Mashiah (as Rav Fish quoted the Zohar, that the tribe of Reuven hands-off the leadership to King Mashiah).

And Cosmic wrote that this is also part of the Geula.

May it be so.

Please, the reason the Rabbinate always votes the way they do is because they have no choice. Who knows the threats???

Also, do not believe that the former pres is a descendant of a venreable rabbi. He was a student at a Jesuit school in his early years in Poland.

There is much we do not know, but better to not write anything favorable of those who have hurt the Jewish people with such venom.

Hopefully, Mr. Rivlin who does have a fine lineage as written will prove to be favorable to the Jews of Israel. As we all know, the Erev Rav rule in the meantime.

Anonymous 5:36,

It would be very hard for me to say that Rav Ovadia was Mahnif someone he wasn't really Mahshiv.

Therefore, as much as I despise Peres' politics and many of his actions throughout the years, I have a very hard time calling him a Rasha or worse like so many are doing.

The fact is that for all of Peres' faults, he did do some things and he does have some qualities that are appealing to Torah-minded Jews.

If that puts me in the dog-house of all right-wingers, so be it.

To summarize: I'm glad that his term is almost over. He did lots of damage as a politician - including indirectly causing deaths of many Jews - something he will need to take up with Shamayim after 120. Nevertheless, I'm not going to play G-d and call him a Rasha when the greatest Gadol Hador of our time was Mahshiv him. And he was known not to be Mahnif those he didn't care for.

As for your assertion that I should not believe that he was the descendant of Rav Chaim Volozhin ZT"L, do you have proof to back up that statement? Besides the Kikar link that I linked to in the post, here's another website that says it (in English).

my rabbis have told me of his illustrious ancestors (i mean, peres'). and speaking ill of him does not reflect well on his great ancestors. why not just think of him as israel's lost children. he has lost more than most jews.
he has temporarily lost touch with his holy heritage. can anything be more disastrous than that. agreed, he had free will, exposures and mixing with the non j's esp clinton and all, can never bring a good outcome. whatever he has done, is between G-d and him and the victims of his choices, also have only Hashem to turn to. lets just hate his actions, not him.
and AMEN to yy re redemption.

What? "Judging by what I wrote when Peres was elected 7 years ago, Ruby Rivlin would then be Armilus.  Of course, I don't consider him Armilus. "

You have(had)it backwards, it's Peres (the volture) who is closer to Armilus than 7th generation Rivlin! This is an example of an "opposite" conclusion, that is rampant in our world now, caused by the Amalekite/nazi-like Palestinians. These people transform everything to its opposite, neged our Jewish heritage.

Peres intentionally chose the letter samech to complete his last name. He knew exactly what he was doing in order to be known as a Vulture as opposed to Peretz, the esteemed ancestor of David HaMelekh. By choosing that name for himself, he became the Ayit in the Covenant between the Parts that Avram had to keep shooing away from the carcasses of rams, female calves, and goats that he had just cut in two. He has been a menace of the worst order since he became President, with ostentatious birthday parties and his crowning achievement at the end of his term, his attempt to give away King David's tomb to the Roman Church. May his attempt be nullified. Moshe Feiglin and his mighty men seem to be on the case on this one. So now it is time for both the Tor (Mashiach ben Yosef) and the Ben Yonah (Mashiach ben David) to go free. In this year of Kolot Reuven Rivlin is the 7th generation Kol HaTor who gave over the teachings of Mashiach ben Yosef to strengthen the Jews in Eretz Yisrael, and may we patiently wait the speedy coming of the Kol HaYonah (Eliyahu HaNavi) who will herald the coming of the Ben Yonah (Mashiach ben David) who is appropriately pictured in the logo on the masthead of your blog.

Reuven Rivlin has Chassidishe roots too:

From COLLive.com:

In a past speech to a visiting Chabad group, Israel's President-elect Reuven Rivlin told of his chassidic and litvish roots.
Reuven Rivlin, former Speaker of the House for Israel's Knesset, is a Jersualemite with ties that go back generations.

His ancestor, Rabbi Hillel Rivlin, a relative of the great Vilna Gaon, came to Ottoman Palestine 73 years before the first glimmerings of political Zionism. Rabbi Hillel came because the Gaon instructed his students and family to do so, in preparation for the arrival of the Messiah.

Thirty years later, Rivlin's mother's family, followers of Chabad chassidut, arrived, impelled by the wishes of the founder of chassidut, Rabbi Israel Baal Shem Tov, who also foresaw the beginning of the Messianic era.

Rabbi Hillel, a follower of the Gaon, married his 7th cousin, the Rivlin girl from the Chabad family -- the first marriage in Ottoman Palestine between Chassidim and their opponents, the "Mitnagdim."

To those who say that the State of Israel is an answer to the Holocaust, or a sop granted the Jews by the United Nations, Rivlin points to his family's tenure in Israel, long before "Zionism," long before the terrible horrors of the Shoah, and long before the United Nations (or its previous incarnation, the League of Nations) came into existence.

Ronnie: From Kayin to Tuval-Kayin there were also 7 generations, but I am sure that you had someone else in mind. Both Kayin and Tuval-Kayin died on the same day in a hunting accident.

Sorry, Yaak, cannot agree with you here, even though I agree most of the time. This man does not have the soul of a Yehudi. He said, "I built Israel and I can burn it". Believe Rav Ovadia & other Rabbis had to agree and just put on the facade because we have no idea if there were threats. Why was he a student, growing up in Poland,at a Jesuit school?

Seriously, 7 is always the number of Shleimut, completion of a idea or perfection Shalom which is the 7th word in the last bracha of Birkat Kohanim. So whether it is 7 generations for eternal punishment or 7 generations for the perfection of an idea, a project for good or for ill is always completed at the end of seven days, weeks, years, or generations. And so it seems to be the case here, the 999 steps of Mashiach ben Yosef are coming to completion with the election of the 7th generation Kol HaTor. The nations of the world will see this as a rebellion against their yoke. Obama and the UN will try to send troops within the year.

Anonymous 4:37,

I also went to a Jesuit school for college. (Oy, will my children get Shidduchim now?)

Seriously, if you look at old news articles, it seems pretty clear that Rav Ovadia genuinely considered Peres a friend. And Peres is Mahshiv Torah learning unlike some of the other yahoos we have in the Knesset today.

We'd have been a lot better off had he in fact been elected only 7 years ago!

In the vanguard,

Well, that was the only election Peres actually won. He lost every election until then. But I agree that the security of Eretz Yisrael would have been better off had Peres not joined the Knesset over a Yovel ago.
