MK Attias: If Obama Treats Mubarak This Way, What Will Be With Us?
MK Ariel Attias, Housing Minister (from Kikar - my translation):
"When the moment of truth comes, then those that you think are with you do an about face. If the U.S. is treating Mubarak this way, where the relationship is bilateral, what can we say ourselves? Therefore, we must look toward heaven and to rely solely on Hakadosh Baruch Hu."
(See also this article from Reuters that tells of other Israelis agreeing with this.)
The Kal VaHomer of MK Attias, if I understand it correctly, is like this: Mubarak pretty much listens to everything President Obama tells it to do. Still, the Obama Administration is partially abandoning him - and telling him that he needs reforms, somewhat supporting the protesters. Israel, on the other hand, doesn't listen to everything President Obama tells it to do (I wish they'd listen to even less than they actually do). All the more so will Israel be abandoned by the U.S. in its time of need. As the Gemara in Sotah warns us, during the Ikveta Dimshiha, the only One to rely on is our Father in Heaven.
As dictatorial as Mubarak is, he is very likely better than any alternative for Egypt in the near future. Rav Ovadia Yosef Shlit"a knows this well too. MK Attias from Shas is following in his footsteps. If Mubarak is replaced, we will truly be a nation that dwells alone. Egypt's cold peace will become a non-peace, Jordan may follow suit, and the U.S. cannot be trusted either. אין לנו להשען אלא על אבינו שבשמים.

With all the Truth being exposed in the world right now, we are likely to be hit for our basic indecency towards our fellow Jews. But we will be saved after being hit because even the leftists in Tel Aviv will turn to the G-d fearing Mashiach ben Yosef to redeem us from the mess that they helped cause by the way they voted over the last 20 years. Ehud Barak will be tarred and feathered for abandoning Southern Lebanon, and the offices of HaAretz will be burned to the ground by the very leftists who supported them all these years. This is a year of total Truth, and the signature of G-d is Truth.
I wish that I could say that the bulk of Israelis, many of whom have a visceral hatred for G-d because of the intense suffering in the Ashkenazic world for the last 2000 years, will simply turn to G-d, but they will only do so in stages. First they will have to see that our victory over Hezbollah, Hamas, and now the Muslim Brotherhood has come only from G-d, and only then will they reconsider their hatred towards Him. Whether ben Yosef facilitates this rekindled love for G-d, or whether we rediscover it first before he reveals himself, I do not know. But one way or another it looks like that it will happen starting this summer, let us say by Rosh Chodesh Av.
